In the beginning ...
In 1977, just back from honeymoon, we struck luck! We found and bought part
of Treworgey Farm, then deserted and running to ruin amongst some of the
loveliest scenery in Cornwall. We restored the cottages ourselves, refurbishing
them with some family antique furniture and much anxious hunting of antique
shops- We gradually bought the rest of Treworgey over a period of 25 years
along with Coombe Farm, a charming farmstead several hundred years old,
just 10 minutes walk along our lane, and we refurbished it in the same way,
as we continue to do year by year.
Our three children are very privilaged
to have been brought up here, and until university, they have never lived
anywhere else!
Treworgey Farm faces south overlooking the beautiful Looe river valley,
rolling green countryside stretching to the river and Looe in the distance.
The medieval Treworgey Manor burnt down centuries ago. The ancient bakery
and stables remain. The later georgian farmhouse, cottages and accompanying
stone barns (first recorded on the 1840 tithe map) and the pretty victorian
farmworkers' cottages now ooze chocolate box charm, yet are real homes once
you step over the threshold.
You cannot categorise the charm and inner warmth that envelopes Treworgey;
it is a heavenly spot, totally unspoilt by the modern world. It is the most
peaceful of places.
Adjoining, is Coombe Farm, lower down our valley, with a sleepy tranquility of its own, gazing over patchwork pastures grazed by sheep. Wild flowers amass on the laneside banks- especially during spring and early summer.
There is a wealth of wildlife on Treworgey's 150 acre estate and some super walks. We frequently see badgers and foxes only a short distance from the cottages, and numerous species of birds.
